What We Do
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE & CEREMONY
Memorial Day is a time to honor and mourn those who gave their lives in service to our country. Each year we organize a parade and ceremony to remember the fallen.
BOB PALMER PROJECT
In preparation for Memorial Day, members of the community gather in our local cemeteries to place over 1500 new flags on the graves of our interred Veterans.
VETERANS DAY CEREMONY
Veterans Day honors all of those who have served our country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices. Each year, the local American Legion holds a public ceremony at Southeast Veterans Park to thank our Veterans, and you’ll see our VFW members at that ceremony. Click to see images
9/11 CEREMONY
Every September 11th, the Brewster VFW teams up with the Brewster Fire Department to host an annual 9/11 ceremony. This event is open to the public and is held at the Brewster Fire Department on Route 312 and North Brewster Road 10509. Click to see images
TAKING CARE OF LOCAL VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES
When a local service member is deployed, both they and their families often need support. We help them in any way we can. We also look to support former servicemembers by connecting them with medical, employment and mental health resources.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Our Post sponsors two scholarships through Brewster High School - the VFW Post 672 Scholarship and the Expanded Horizons Scholarship. We also participate in the Patriot's Pen essay contest for middle-school students, as well as the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest for high school students.
GRAVESITE FLAGHOLDERS FOR VETERANS
One of the missions of our Post is to make sure that every Veteran interred in any of our town's cemeteries has a brass flagholder at their gravesite. We work on this as time and finances allow. Know someone whose gravesite doesn't have one? Let us know. Want to donate to our efforts? Let us know that too!
BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER
On the second Sunday of every month, October thru May, we’ll be here from 9am to 11am serving up an all-you-can-eat buffet of scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon & sausage, pancakes & waffles, homefries, our famous sausage gravy & biscuits, and more. Breakfast is open to the public, and is a great community event.
Our Canteen is open to members & guests.
